Topic: THE CELL AND IT’S ORIGIN
Over billion years ago, elements such as Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Sulphur and Phosphorus formed simple chemical compounds. They combined, dispersed and recombined to form a variety of larger molecules until a combination was achieved that was capable of replicating itself. Thismacromolecules consisted of simpler molecules linked together by chemical bonds. With continued evolution and formation of more complex molecules, the water environment of some of these self-replicating molecules became enclosed by a membrane. This development gave the pre-modial structures..
…the ability to control their own environment to some extent. A form of life had evolved and a unit of three dimensional-space a cell had been established. The cell (derived from the Latin word “cellula” meaning small room) is the structural and functional unit of life. It may be regarded as the functional unit of biological activities.
ASSIGNMENT
